This past month has been spent evaluating 2008 and making new plans for 2009.
One thing that has been coming up more and more is your interest in having digital files. I have heard and I do understand... after all it's the digital age. I too love being able to have my family's portraits on my blog, email them to family, use them on my desktop slideshow, and display them in my digital frame. I love having them printed for my albums and nothing compares to the portraits on my walls... but yeah, I understand wanting the digital files too.
I still have some of the same concerns I've always had though.... I really don't want your precious little ones portraits to sit on a DVD forever... I don't want you to miss out on seeing your daughter's portraits on your wall... There's really something about having a printed portrait that you can see and feel.
I also would hate to see the portraits I took the time to develop with perfect contrast, exposure and color balance printed off a printer that completely skewed the final image. I've taken my digital files to all the local drug stores, Wolf, Walmart/Sams... I've printed them at the thrifty online printers... I've tried my home printer. They just don't turn out the way they should.
But yes, I hear you... and I know you still want your files.
So the good news is... I did finally find a printer I can comfortably recommend. Their lab settings are close enough to the pro-lab I'm calibrated to and the finished product, while not of the same quality, is a nice finished portrait.
So knowing I can recommend a quality print lab... and knowing how much you want your digital files...
